38,000 sq ft Waitrose Store & Retail Units Fairfield Road, Warminster
Town centre redevelopment of an existing operational factory site. Prior to construction the existing factory needed to be relocated to an alternative site location. This was carried out as a separate contract (value £2 million) and Shear Design were also the Consulting Civil and Structural Engineers.
The works included substantial enabling and demolition works of the existing factory buildings and Highway stopping up notices.
To access the development high improvement works included the forming of new access for the service yard operations together with junction improvements to the existing public road involving the relocation of bus stops, taxi ranks and introductions of a pelican crossing.
The Waitrose store is 30,000 sq ft with 119 car parking space facility. The scheme also include three separate retail units totalling 8,000 sq ft.
To reduce site waste a specialist ground improvement technique is designed which also allowed a cost effective traditional pad and strip foundation solution to be adopted.
The buildings consist of structural steelwork frames with secondary lightweight cold steelwork to support the Architectural wall panelling systems.
A full drainage assessment determined the surface strategy and in agreement with Wessex Water an attenuation drainage system has been used. Foul drainage connects to the existing public sewers.
