Vue Cinema and Ten Pin Bowling Building, Rhydycar Leisure Complex

Vue Cinema, Rhydycar Leisure Complex, Merthyr Tydfil

The cinema and ten pin bowling building are part of a leisure complex at Rhydycar, Merthyr Tydfil. Shear Design also successfully undertook (under different contracts) design of the restaurant buildings (Frankie & Benny’s and Subway) together with the Travelodge Hotel also located on the site.

The cinema and ten pin bowling building consists of a complex curved profiled roof with large spanning steelwork beams designed utilising cellular beams for efficiency.

The auditoria seating to the cinema halls is supported on precast concrete terraces on a structural steelwork frame to comply with the tenants specification.

An economical foundation system of lightly reinforced strip and pad concrete foundation was designed bearing on the underlying formed made ground following recommendation from the intrusive site investigation.

The ground floor is designed utilizing a reinforced ground bearing slab.

Drainage spurs for both the foul and surface water were provided by the previous leisure centre development on the site.
