Conversion of neglected former Ford European headquarters office building into 384 apartments.

The conversion linked closely with Basildon Councils £1 billion town centre masterplan to boost the town economy.

As part of the design a structural assessment to construct an addition 2 floors on top of the existing eight storey building was completed although this option was not constructed.

Due to conversion from offices to apartment a detailed check of foul drainage capacity was required and new drainage routes constructed to service the apartments.

Due to presence of significant foundations to the existing building, comprehensive intrusive investigations were necessary to understand ‘as built’/constructed details.

This enabled an efficient underground foul drainage network to be developed and designed in consultation with the contractor to minimize impact on existing structure and existing ground floor slab
