Reservoir House, Ynysfro Rogerstone, Newport

Reservoir House, Ynysfro Rogerstone, Newport

A new architecturally bespoke residence adjacent to the reservoir on the outskirts of Newport. The project required the demolition of an existing dwelling with substantial earthworks to plateau the site.

The new structure is split level to fully utilize the sloping nature of the site and to comply with planning restraints.

The form of structure consists of traditional load bearing masonry with pre cast concrete units and cut timber roof supported on mass concrete strips and pads.

The front of the main building incorporated a steelwork steel roof and front elevation frame to support a fully glazed façade offering extensive views over the reservoir.

Due to the split levels several retaining walls were necessary including reinforced concrete and gabion baskets.

As the site boundary was very restrictive a surface water sewer diversion had to be designed in to accommodate the development.

The new surface water drainage was then able to connect into this system eventually discharging into the reservoir. Under agreement with Welsh Water the foul water drainage system discharges into an existing septic tank which serves the adjacent anglers facilities.
