Morlais Medical Centre Extension
Two storey extension of existing Medical Centre at Morlais, Merthyr Tydfil.
The building was designed as a traditional load bearing masonry structure with suspended timber floors and insitu concrete ground bearing slab. The new building was designed to tie in with the existing medical centre which had to remain operational throughout the works.
A complicated roof configuration which partly contained the upper storey and ties into the existing building is designed with a cut timber roof supported on steelwork beams supported on masonry walls.
Regrading of external levels to extend the existing car park and form new vehicle access have been designed with surface and foul water drainage connecting to existing drainage systems.
The design maximised the re-use of the existing surfacing and drainage infrastructure.
