Llanrumney Library, Learning and Community Centre, Cardiff
A new build, 2 storey learning and information centre at the location of an existing library on Countisbury Avenue, Cardiff.
The site was crossed by two public sewers, each of which compromised the proposed scheme and therefore diversion under Section 185 Agreements were required. Under Cardiff City Council’s original proposals these diversions were run out into the public highways; however during the tender process intense negotiations were held between Shear Design and Welsh Water to agree a relaxation of the extent of diversion allowing them to remain within the site boundary therefore reducing diversion costs and construction programme.
The new building consists of a two storey steelwork wind frame designed to remove the need for bracing bays due to the extensive glazing to the elevations.
The structure was founded off traditional pad and strip foundations with trench fill provided locally to the diverted public sewers.
