Brecon High School
Brecon High School is a new, 750 student (aged 11-18) Secondary School to replace the existing 1950’s Secondary School and to allow for increased capacity and to meet the demands of 21st Century education.
This site is located within the Brecon beacon National Park. The School being developed as park of the Welsh Governments 21st Century Schools and Education programme.
We worked closely with the Contractor BAM Construction the architects Scott Brownrigg, MEP Designer Hydrock and the key stakeholders to deliver a modern and ethical design.
The structural frame is formed of structural steelwork incorporating steelwork trusses to the Sports hall to provide clear open space to meet the requirements of Sports Wales.
The upper floor construction specification is precast concrete hollow planks tied to the steel frame to meet the requirements of disproportionate collapse.
Due to the underlying clay strata and the loads associated to the Building, Pile foundation were utilised. In co-ordination with the Architectural and landscape, we designed a full sustainable Urban Drainage System incorporated attenuation below the new car park.
We also designed the new access road and roundabout for the project under direct appointment for Powys County Council.
