The East London Hotel, Bethnal Green
The highly decorated East London Hotel is a new 161 Bedroom Hotel located in the heart of Bethnal Green on the site of the former Balls Brothers Headquarters.
We worked closely with the Contractor RGB Group and their sub-contractors to develop a design that considered the challenging logistics of the development due to its site location within a London red route district.
The building consists of a 2 storey basement with 6 additional stories above ground.
The structural form of the building is reinforced concrete frame up to 1st floor level, where a reinforced concrete transfer structure supports a light gauge steel frame (LGSF) above.
The building superstructure was modelled using the latest Finite Element Analysis Software to ensure an efficient design of the relatively slim concrete slabs that were required to span over the open spaces below.
From our experience of basement construction, we worked closely along side the piling sub-contractor and waterproofing Designed to conclude a continuous piled wall was the most efficient and practical form of construction with consideration for the site constraints.
The site is adjacent to a railway viaduct and, as such, the design of the structure was subject to design and vetting in accordance with Network Rail design requirements and approval procedures.
To negate the requirement for a piled foundation solution, we worked along side the Geotechnical engineer to value engineer a reinforced concrete raft solution.
